Shawly it's ready

Cats? What have they got to do with it ?Well, as we entered the room that we were going to 'stretch' the now finished shawl, we found mum cat feeding her two new kittens! A good omen surely for the final part of Krysia's Moroccan project. A finely knitted Merino wool shawl. Her first. She does like to take on a new challenge on our wanderings.

So after two and a half months of knitting, the project reaches its final stage. The stretching and shaping.  Wetting the shawl to start with, it is then pinned to the foam mattress after having threaded thin wire through the edges to make a symmetrical shape of ones desire. The following photos will best explain the slow but pleasant process.

Careful threading of the wire so that the pins can firmly hold the shawl in place.

Then the other edge is pulled into shape after wire has been threaded.

Come on lads, keep your eyes on the shawl ! the delicate threading, dexterity of hand and wire !

And hey presto, beautiful Krysia has got it all fixed in perfect shape.

24 hours or so, to let it dry with its sail like properties. Or is it a wave of blue wool breaking over.......

Getting carried away now.

And out in the sun the next day, to finish off the drying and get a proper look at it in all its loveliness.

Simon certainly connects to the wave of wool and has a quick surf to prove it.

Krysia can now unpin the woolen wonder and put it to it's intended use.

Wow. One fine shawl.

What's next?

A pair of socks for me !
