Foum Daraa

The Mouth of the Draa. It's here that the river meets the sea. I know they all do but this one is often swallowed up into the Sahara desert. It's travelled from the Atlas mountains to M'Hamid, through the Oasis' of Zagora and the valley of a thousand kasbah's, well hundreds maybe, out into the desert of Erg Chebbi and all the way to here. 1,100 kms long, it's the longest river in Morocco. And it comes out 30 kms north of Tan Tan Plage.

And it's running !!!

The piste to get here was bumpy, very straight and 10 kms longer than I was expecting. But the reward was well worth the effort and although we were a bit chilly when we arrived, we soon warmed up in the sun, with views to warm the cockles of our hearts. This has been one of those must get to places. We've watched it flow in the Atlas mountains and fizzle out in the desert. We've heard that it can run all the way to the sea and here it is.

We are not alone, apart from the wildlife, there are six campervans here !! With a new road that brought them, and it's tarmac ! Our journey into the wilderness was thrilling while it lasted and a relief when we knew the drive home would be swift and smooth.
Still, it's amazing to be here and we need to explore.

Three out of the four fishermen are French! Lets go and join them.

We don't need to fish to be here. In fact being here is what it's all about for us. At the mouth of the Draa. One happy chappy stands at ease. It's taken five years to get here! Well, this is our fifth visit in as many years and we've a knack for breaking down north of this area. But not this time! Vannie goes really well as does the bike. So bring it on ( he's getting cocky now, careful boyo )

This image really sums up where we are. It's wild and open. Beautifully clean.
A place to breath freely, take stock of the situation. And be thankful for where we are.

Krysia is feeling better today, which makes it possible to be here at all.

So she's on the hunt for locals.
Big birds feet!                                                             And this is a highway of lizard activity.
If only  they would stay still enough to watch them.

So after several hours of being happy at the Draa. Daraa Daraa Daraa.
We climb up and out of the valley, well pleased with our adventure into not quite so great a wilderness!

We get our extra wind protection tops on and head for Tan Tan Plage. Only an extra 17 kms on the new road. A total of 80 kms all told. 50 miles.
